James Copus...1775-1812 Said to be of German origin but probably English origin as his name.
Born in Greene County Pennsylvania married 1796 moved to Richland County Ohio 1809.
Killed together with 3 soldiers in an attack on his cabin in 1812 this has become known as the Copus massacre and a monument to this incident was errected in 1882. Picture on Photos page.
